There are asters – and then there are goldenasters. Asters come in yellow, purple, and white, whereas goldenasters are just … golden. Right now they are dominating some dry open spaces in our area. Maryland goldenaster (Chrysopsis mariana (L.) Elliott) is a much-branched herbaceous perennial with a shrubby look about it. Most grow to about two feet in height, but when conditions are right they can be up to four feet tall. These beautiful plants have been blooming since August. With luck, some blooms will still be with us through this month.
