Sewanee’s FYP

FYP? It stands for First-Year Program, a course for entering Sewanee students to help them orient to the University and its environs. This afternoon, I took Prof. Deb McGrath to Foster Falls to study the array of medicinal and other plants, have a swim, and write  in their journals. I read to them from the 1967 edition of Under the Sun at Sewanee, then later suggested “Under the Sun” as the theme for today’s journaling. As Under the Sun author Waring McCrady explains, “Under what sun? — people are inclined to ask. But the sun is always there for the faithful, and entertainment is always here for the imaginative.”
