Dr. Elsie Quarterman video

Quarterman 1947

Tennessee Wild Side has produced a short video about the life and work of Tennessee ecologist Elsie Quarterman, who was instrumental in saving a number of important plant communities in our state, including the 500-acre old-growth forest at Savage Gulf, which is just up the plateau from the Domain. The video concentrates on her work on the cedar glades of middle Tennessee, but several of the photos were taken at Savage Gulf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vad3qykQH0s The Wild Side video characterizes her as a “crusader for conservation,” a scientist who could connect politicians and others to the importance of preserving our natural heritage.
