It’s still early — we haven’t yet had even one good snow here in Sewanee. Food for wildlife is still abundant. This cultivar holly, photographed beside a parking lot in nearby Chattanooga, is loaded with berries. Holly berries need a fair amount of cold weather — and possibly a few episodes of freezing — before they are soft and mildly flavored enough for most birds. But how those citified Chattanooga birds will feast when these berries are ready for consumption!
