Blossoms on our By-ways

phlox It’s late spring, and the wildflower show is moving from the woodlands to their edges, as well as roadsides, meadows, and clearings. Here’s a bright one that catches the eye — Phlox amoena, or hairy phlox. This mass was photographed in the power line right-of-way at nearby Foster Falls. “Phlox” means “flame” and “amoen” means pleasant. A fitting name for this perky flower!
