I’m ragWORT — not ragWEED. See my beautiful yellow flowers? Yes, they’re loaded with pollen, but it’s sticky pollen that clumps together for easy transport by bees and other pollinators that are attracted to me by my beautiful yellow “come hither” inflorescence. My cousin ragweed, on the other hand, doesn’t have showy, attractive blooms. And anyway, it won’t be in bloom until late this summer.
So what is it that’s got you sneezing? Probably pollen from oak trees and spring-blooming grasses. Those guys’ flowers are wind-pollinated, so they send tons of pollen out into the air, and some of it flies right up your nose — Aaaaa-CHOO!
