Hearts a-Bustin’

hearts a-bustin'

This plant, Euonymus americanus, is one of the few whose fruit is more beautiful than the flower. Hearts a-Bustin’s small yellow flower belies what’s coming in late summer — a gorgeous red fruit literally dripping with orange-red seeds. Another common name for it is Strawberry Bush, also named for the fruit. I wouldn’t try tasting it, but this fruit is a visual show-stopper.

nature journaingHere’s the Thursday morning nature journaling group getting a good look. Join us — the group is meeting at “Trink’s Terrace” in Abbo’s Alley as long as the weather stays as beautiful as it is now.
