Environmental Ed Class

Once every fall, I am invited to share some of my environmental education ideas with Prof. Daniel Carter’s environmental education class. This week, we made tiny wine cork “boats,” set them afloat in the Abbo’s Alley stream, and the students did a journaling exercise about the experience. The theme was water — where it comes from, where it goes, and its importance as a resource. Students were asked to spend some time alone beside the stream, recording facts and observations about the stream, jotting down questions that occurred to them, and reflecting on previous experiences that this reminded them of. I hope they got something out of it — I certainly enjoyed spending the afternoon with them.
