Mountathon a Huge Success

Ten people gathered in the herbarium and adjacent classroom this morning to work on mounting our backlog of plant specimens. And fragile specimens they are! These were in a folder labeled “folder 10, 1963,” among those on permanent loan from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These women were bent on getting things done, steeling themselves from the distractions offered by the old newspapers that the specimens had been stored in — the fashion styles, language, and of course the headlines. One person commented that the 55- to 60-year-old jokes in the funny papers lack modern sensitivity to cultural issues. But look how much work we did! Thanks, everyone, and I hope you return when we do this again!
