Learning about Trees with the Girl Scouts

Sewanee’s Girl Scout Cadet troop is studying trees, and troop leader Hunt Oliver asked me to show them a few species. We wandered through Abbo’s Alley, walked the labyrinth, climbed trees and rocks — and somewhere in there we also looked at the trees. We snacked on passion fruit and collected black walnuts to make a dye. Next time they meet, they’re going to make root beer out of sassafras — Yumm! I had a great time.  What a terrific group of girls — And how lucky to have Hunt as their leader!
