Tomorrow, July 29, join Mary Priestley at 9:30 AM for a wildflower walk at Foster Falls. Part of South Cumberland State Park, Foster Falls is a summertime destination for many. They scamper across the power line right-of-way, pause at the overlook, then climb down the hill to one of the best swimming holes ever. But up above, beneath that power line, lies a sea of late summer jewels — orchids, sunflowers, blazing stars, goldenrods, and more. And who’s noticing? The butterflies. that’s who! They’re out in force, visiting the flowers to slurp up yummy nectar, pollinating as they go. Meet by the trailhead kiosk. Don’t forget your camera. Bug spray, sunscreen, and water are a good idea, too. Consider lingering for a picnic or a dip in the water after this easy one-mile walk.
